Food Recovery Program
WSU's Food Recovery Program, which addresses food waste and food insecurity in the community, is a unique partnership among WSU Dining Services, the Center for Civic Engagement, and the Whitman County Community Action Center.
Through the program, student volunteers repackage leftover food items from dining services into individual portions, which are distributed to community members in need through the Community Action Center food pantry.
During the launch year, more than 1,000 lbs of food was recovered and donated. In 2020, 2,681 lbs was donated. To date, the program has recovered more than 3,000 meals for community members facing food insecurity.
